Cody Simpson on working with real-life girlfriend in new video: 'We didn't stop when they yelled 'cut''

Australian heartthrob Cody Simpson has opened up about how Beyoncé inspired his new single, 'Surfboard', after she released her steamy single 'Drunk In Love', and also what it was like to work with his girlfriend for the song's video.

Speaking to Fuse.TV about the way Beyoncé uses the word in that track, the star explained that she brought it back to pop culture and because surfing has been part of his life since he was a child he knew he had to use the term for his new offering:

"I've been surfing my whole life. It's just been part of my music ever since I can remember. Beyoncé came out with 'Drunk in Love' and really made that term a part of pop culture. She definitely kind of cemented the sexual innuendo into the term."

Simpson starred alongside his real-life girlfriend, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Gigi Hadid, in the music video for 'Surfboard' and added that shooting the clip felt very natural:

"Working with my girl makes it so much more comfortable. I've never had a girlfriend in a music video before... I thought, might as well have the girl in that inspired the song, and it just made the chemistry so natural. Some scenes where they didn't end up putting in the video was us kissing or whatever, but we ended up shooting those scenes as options, and they ended up yelling 'cut,' and we didn't stop."
