Australian singer Cody Simpson has revealed that he is so excited about his new album because he finally feels as though he has control of his music career. 

Writing on his official Twitter page, the 'Surfboard' heartthrob explained that he has gained confidence and is more headstrong, which will be reflected in his new material.

Simpson tweeted: "This next album feels like my first. feelin' so new. this is MY album too. Older with the confidence to get the artistic freedom I've needed & I'm so young."

A representative for Simpson has now confirmed that he has split from his girlfriend, model Gigi Hadid, who stars alongside him in his latest music video: "Their busy schedules and living on opposite coasts have made it nearly impossible for the two of them to give the relationship the attention that it needs."

"They decided that rather than let things sour that they split up in hopes that their lives might someday bring them back together. They remain close friends and will continue to show their support for one another."
