From Baroque to Broadway –

Multi Award Winning Classical Star Alison Balsom

Announces 2014 Tour Dates

Further to a hugely successful 2013, during which The Times declared her as "an astonishing virtuosa", multi-award-winning trumpet player Alison Balsom will be performing her first solo show throughout the UK.

As one of the most highly regarded trumpeters and exciting classical musicians of a generation, Balsom has spent the last decade perfecting her extraordinary talent, travelling around the globe living in Paris, London and New York. Her infectious performances and signature tone have become a firm favourite with the music connoisseur.

She has gone on to become Gramophone Artist of the Year, winner of the Nordoff Robbins PPL Classical Award and has picked up three Classical BRITs including Female Artist of the Year in 2009 & 2011.

This Summer she rocked out at Latitude Festival whilst leaving both music and theatre critics smitten with her production of Gabriel at Shakespeare's Globe.

This time, the trumpeter will present a truly eclectic evening with her own musicians.

In a recent interview with The Times Alison said about the new concept show:

“I wanted to develop a 90 minute concert that really shows what the trumpet can do – partly by playing pure classical music without a microphone, but partly by using enhanced lighting and sound to present more contemporary music”.

Of her forthcoming tour Alison says "I am so excited about my first solo tour next year. I have to admit that I have struggled to choose repertoire. There are so many incredible works that I love and that I know my audience will love including pieces and songs by Handel, Gershwin, Stravinsky, Piazzolla, Purcell, Cole Porter, Debussy and I am about to go into the studio with the legendary rock producer, Ethan Johns to create a whole new sound… If only it were possible to perform a different programme each night!"

Expect an evening of remarkable creativity, virtuosity and some much loved works from Baroque to Broadway.

The tour starts in Edinburgh on September 30th, finishing in Birmingham on October 14th.
