Demi Lovato on saying no to alcohol: 'If I drink, I know where I'll be in six months'

'Neon Lights' beauty Demi Lovato recently opened up about quitting drinking in a new interview with Britain's You magazine.

Speaking about deciding to confront her alcoholism, the songstress explained that it was important for her to keep sight of where she would be if she continued to drink as it helped her to abstain from boozing:

"If I think that I am never going to be able to have a glass of wine with dinner, I get anxious. And sometimes I do feel like I want to go to a bar and have some shots, but I know where I will be in six weeks’ or six months’ time if I do.”

“We are a different breed, we [are] alcoholics, but it is just like having any other disease – you have to learn to live with it."

In the same interview, she also confessed that her substance abuse issues began when she was 12 years old after being prescribed painkillers for a car accident injury: "That was how the substance abuse started. I liked the feeling they gave me - they sort of numbed everything - and I also liked the sneakiness of taking extra pills out of my mom's bag without her knowing."
