Demi Lovato: 'My past will always be a part of me, but I won't let it define me'

Songstress Demi Lovato opened up about having bipolar disorder along with an eating disorder after leaving rehab in 2010 and she has revealed that while she knows her past will always stay with her, she doesn't want to let it control or define who she is.

During a new interview with Fitness magazine, the beauty explained that revealing her struggles to the world was liberating and something that helped with her recovery as admitting it publicly made her confront her issues:

"I had two choices: I could pretend it never happened, or I could tell people the truth. I was tired of hiding and relieved to know what was wrong with me so I could finally do something to get better."

"I know my past will always be a part of me, but I don't want it to define me. Right now I'm excited to live in the present and looking forward to the future."
