Demi Lovato on living with mental illness: 'I want to change society's view'

'Really Don't Care' songstress Demi Lovato has spoken out about mental illness in a new video clip.

The beauty, who is living with bipolar disorder, opens up about the stigma attached to mental illness and confessed that she wants to help change that in our society through conversation, honesty and education:

"I've seen some dark times, especially with the depressive phase of the illness. Biopolar depression really got my life off track, but today I'm proud to say that I'm living proof that someone can live, love and be well with bipolar disorder when they get the education, support and treatment they need."

"People with mental illness often have low expectations because they've been hurt or disappointed in the past and I want to change that. Our society tends to shame or ignore those with mental illness and I want to change that, too. I want people to expect more from our society and our futures."

The superstar, meanwhile, recently gave Glitter magazine an interview and shared some advice that she would love to give her fans: “I would tell them to follow your dreams but always be sure to stay true to yourself. Even when things get tough, stay strong!”
