Demi Lovato to receive GLAAD Award for promoting equality

'Stone Cold' songstress Demi Lovato will be honoured at the 27th annual GLAAD Media Awards.

She has been chosen to receive the coveted Vanguard Award by the world’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender media advocacy organisation next month in Los Angeles.

The Vanguard Award is given to "media professionals who have made a significant difference in promoting equality and acceptance," and GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis issued a statement on the decision to award it to Lovato, which reads:

"She is an extraordinary ally who is committed to helping young people embrace who they are and live the lives they love."

Back in February, Lovato told Ellen DeGeneres that she credits Kim Kardashian with helping her learn to love her curves:

"When I was growing up at the kind of age where your body starts changing... it was in that era when very, very, very thin people were popular in Hollywood, so that's what I had to look up to. When the Kardashians came on the scene, that was the first time that I really associated curves with beauty, and it was just so new to me. I remember thinking, 'Wow, that's so cool!'"

"And even in a time when I was still struggling with food, I was able to look at Kim's curves and be like, 'I should really be proud of my curves'. Now there's tons of beautiful, curvy women out there."
