Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas cancel North Carolina gigs over LGBT law

Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas have cancelled two shows in North Carolina over the state's recently passed anti-LGBT law.

Bruce Springsteen started a trend recently by pulling a gig there after the state passed the 'Bathroom Bill'.

The law forces transgender people to use gender-specific restrooms and it has come under fire.

In a statement, Lovato said that their two gigs in Charlotte on June 30 and in Raleigh on July 2 have been called off in protest.

She wrote: "After much thought and deliberation, we have decided to cancel our Honda Civic Tour: Future Now shows in Raleigh and Charlotte. One of our goals for the tour has always been to create an atmosphere where every single attendee feels equal, included, and accepted for who they are.

"North Carolina’s discriminatory HB2 law is extremely disappointing, and it takes away some of the LGBT community’s most basic rights and protections. But we will not allow this to stop us from continuing to make progress for equality and acceptance.

"We know the cancellation of these shows is disappointing to our fans, but we trust that you will stand united with us against this hateful law."

Other acts such as Pearl Jam and Bryan Adams have recently cancelled US gigs in protest of anti-LGBT laws.

While they opposed the legislation, Duran Duran recently confirmed plans to still play in North Carolina to honour their fans.
