Demi Lovato: 'When I was in treatment, I honestly thought my career was over'

Pop songstress and 'X Factor USA' judge Demi Lovato has opened up about admitting herself to a rehabilitation centre and confessed that she initally expected her career to be finished when she came out from treatment.

Referring to the fact that many pop stars choose to say they don't want to be seen as role models and shouldn't be looked up to just because they're in the public eye, Lovato admitted she also used that as an excuse when her behaviour wasn't the best:

"That was my excuse to do whatever the f*** I wanted and not give a s*** about what other people thought. Then I ended up going through some stuff. I realized I'm never going to escape the fact that I'm in the public eye, so I might as well do the best I can."

She continued, explaining that the day she entered rehab she thought her career was over: "When I was in treatment, I honestly thought my career was over. But when I came out of treatment, I had more supportive fans than ever."

The 'Heart Attack' beauty added that now she's a lot stronger and can face her demons, she often deals with an internal struggle about how much she should reveal about her battle with mental health and other issues:

"I'm battling with internal thoughts on how honest I should be. Yes, I've been very honest, but if people really knew how dark and deep my struggles got - not just with my eating disorder but with drugs and alcohol - they'd be really shocked. But I'll most likely end up saying everything. Maybe it'll help other people in the industry who are headed down the wrong path."
