Diplo says he took into account the divisive nature of Justin Bieber when working with the singer.

The DJ and dubstep man Skrillex teamed up with the Canadian on their recent track 'Where Are Ü Now'.

Speaking to Capital FM at the weekend, Diplo said that the duo wanted to ensure their song had a broad appeal.

The collaboration came after a period in Bieber's life in which the singer developed a reputation for bad behaviour.

He said: "Justin’s a polarising figure so no matter what we do, you’re going to have to pay attention to it and if we can make something amazing that like everybody can love -pop fans, people who are critics, people who are into rap music...

"If we can get a whole across the board crowd excited about the record then we have achieved something."
