Ed Sheeran: "Pharrell Williams told me 'Sing' would change everything for me"

Ed Sheeran has revealed that Pharrell Williams told him that his new single would "change everything" for the singer-songwriter.

The British musician unleashed his new single 'Sing' on Monday (April 7) ahead of its full release on June 1.

'Happy' hitmaker Williams produced the song and Sheeran told Capital FM that the US icon believes the track will propel him to new heights.

However, it took a number of hours before Pharrell could convince Sheeran to release the song as his next single.

The Brit said: "I went out for dinner with Pharrell actually at Jamie Oliver's restaurant and we sat down and he spent three hours talking to me about why this song would change everything for me.

"He's a very honest guy. He's like 'dude, I've had the three biggest songs of the year, I don't need to make any more money. I don't need to have anymore hits. I'm not doing this for my own personal gain. I think it's gonna help you if this song is your first single and it's just gonna rock the boat a bit'. And he was totally right – I just needed convincing and it took him three hours."

'Sing' meanwhile will feature on Sheeran's upcoming album 'x', which will hit shelves on June 23.
