Ed Sheeran was on drugs when he got asked to record Hobbit song

Ed Sheeran has revealed that he was high on MDMA when he was asked to contribute a song to the Hobbit film series.

The singer-songwriter recorded the track 'I See Fire' for the Desolation of Smaug flick last year.

However, he told Rolling Stone that he was asked by director Peter Jackson to do the song whilst high on drugs.

Sheeran said that he was in Ibiza in October to celebrate producer Jake Gosling's wedding when the moment - which saw Jackson text the musician - happened.

"If I was ever going to try [MDMA], it would've been there. I thought the text wasn't real, because I was like, 'Is everything just great today?'."

The 'Lego House' man meanwhile unveiled the tracklisting for his new album 'x' today (April 9).

The record is due to be released on June 23 and it features songs such as the single 'Sing', 'Nina' and 'Don't'.
