Ed Sheeran's 'x' rockets to top of US albums chart

Ed Sheeran is celebrating after topping the US albums chart.

The singer-songwriter recently released his second record 'x' and he hit No.1 in his native UK.

The 'A Team' man has now followed this up by smashing his way to the top of the Billboard 200.

'x' sold a massive 210,000 copies in its first week to become the fourth quickest selling album of the year so far in the US.

Coldplay's 'Ghost Stories' currently holds that title after shifting 383,000 units.

Sheeran has also bagged the largest debut sales week for a British male artist in the US nearly 10 years.

Rod Stewart's 'Stardust...The Great American Songbook Vol. III' sold 240,000 copies in 2004.

In comparison, Sheeran's 2011 debut album '+' only sold 42,000 units in its first week.
