Ed Sheeran coy on identities of people who inspired 'Don't'

Ed Sheeran has refused to name the people who inspired his song 'Don't'.

The track, which features on his 2014 album 'x', tells of how he had been enjoying a liaison with a female who was also in the music industry.

However, she ended up eloping with another man and people have suggested that the people in the story are Ellie Goulding and One Direction's Niall Horan.

Sheeran was quizzed by Howard Stern on Monday (September 8) about the song's lyrics, with the radio man asking if it was about a "One Direction guy".

The singer-songwriter replied: "The papers says a lot of things. I have kept my mouth shut about a lot of things. I think if you add any fuel to any fire...

"I didn’t really come out of that situation upset. I was just p*ssed off. I just thought it was a bit disrespectful. I got over it as soon as the song was done and the song happened pretty soon after."

He added: "It’s a difficult conversation to have...He was my mate, so I was just a bit like, ‘um not cool, but...'."

Sheeran was asked again if it was "the guy" in One Direction, with the musician replying with a "no".

He then joked: "Well, it depends which one you’re talking about..."
