Ed Sheeran shows support for homelessness campaign

Ed Sheeran has lent his weight to a new campaign that wants to see greater action taken on finding the homeless a place to stay.

The singer signed the No One Turned Away petition, which calls on the UK government to revise its policy on helping single homeless people.

The move was coined by charity Crisis and Sheeran visited one of their centres in Newcastle recently.

The musician said in a statement: "When I volunteered at Crisis I met people who'd been forced to sleep on the streets. Homelessness is a horrifying experience and no-one should have to go through it. That's why I've signed the Crisis No One Turned Away petition.

"Right now, the system is failing homeless people. We need to demand change so that every homeless person can get the help they need."

Whilst visiting the Newcastle centre, Sheeran gave a songwriting workshop and performed a short set.
