Ed Sheeran has topped Australia's end of year albums chart.

The Brit released his second record 'x' in June and it instantly hit No.1 in Australia.

Industry body ARIA have now confirmed that it was the best-selling album of 2014 in the country.

It sat at No.1 for a total of six weeks and it is closing in on sales of 280,000.

Sheeran beat off competition from Taylor Swift's '1989' and the soundtrack to 'Frozen'.

Pharrell Williams' 'Happy' meanwhile was the most popular single in Australia last year.
