Ed Sheeran to undergo surgery for burst eardrum in January

Ed Sheeran has revealed that he is due to have ear surgery next year.

The singer-songwriter told Australia's Nova radio that he burst his eardrum in Spain last year.

The incident occurred due to impact after the Brit launched himself off a boat.

Sheeran said: "I have to have an operation in January on my ear because I stupidly jumped off a yacht really high up and smashed it.

"I landed wrong and it burst my eardrum so I have to go and get a graft, which means I'm not allowed to fly for a while, so it's kind of good; it means I have to stay at home."

The 'Lego House' star added: "I didn't realise what happened until I went in the water again and it's the most painful thing having a hole in your eardrum and having water go in."

Sheeran meanwhile recently confirmed plans to go on a prolonged break from the spotlight in 2016.
