Ed Sheeran annoyed Adele with flip-phone comment

Ed Sheeran has admitted he unknowingly offended Adele recently by talking about flip-phones.

An old mobile phone with a flip cover was used in the hit video for the '25' star's 'Hello' video.

It became something of an internet sensation due to the phone's age.

Speaking to The Sun, Sheeran said that he was at dinner with Adele when he mentioned he had bought a flip-phone - leading Adele to think he was taking a jibe.

However, the Brit hadn't seen the 'Hello' video yet.

He said: "I'm getting rid of my phone and all my numbers. I bought a Motorola flip phone. She wasn't happy about that".

"We went out for dinner and I hadn't seen the 'Hello' video. I said, 'I'm getting a flip phone' and she said, 'Is that some sort of f*cking joke?'.

The video's director Xavier Dolan meanwhile said in an interview that he wanted to use the older phone to further take people away from reality.

He said: "The real explanation is that I never like filming modern phones or cars.

"They're so implanted in our lives that when you see them in movies you're reminded you're in reality."
