Ed Sheeran originally wrote Bieber's 'Love Yourself' for himself

Ed Sheeran has revealed that Justin Bieber's 'Love Yourself' was penned in mind for his upcoming new album, but it didn't fit on the record.

The singer-songwriter gave the tune to the Canadian and it became a global hit when it was released last year. He told 97.1 AMP Radio that he wrote the song for his upcoming album '÷', but it didn't fit, so he gave it away.

Sheeran said: "That was a song I had written for ‘÷’. It just wouldn’t have made it. And then Justin took it and did his thing on it, and released it as a single and made it what it is.

"So going from a song that would have never been released to [being] the biggest song of last year – it just became Billboard‘s #1 of 2016 of the whole year, and [was] nominated for Song of the Year at the Grammys – it just shows you that you shouldn’t always write stuff off."

The Brit added that Bieber "did have input on it" and that the tune wasn't "just all me".
