Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed that taking a year out of the spotlight helped his relationship to feel much more stable and secure. 

The 'Castle on the Hill' sensation is dating Cherry Seaborn, who he has known since his school days, and told BBC Radio 2 that he is "the happiest" he has ever been at the moment:

"I'm actually the happiest I've been and it's because I had a year to spend with someone. I've always started relationships then gone off on tour. I spent every day for a year with this certain person, we kind of have a strong relationship now which is good."

He went onto add that their domestic set-up now includes pets, which has pretty much sealed the deal from his perspective: "I'm really secure now, we live together and we have cats, and I think when you have cats that's kind of it."

The musician's latest singles, entitled 'Shape Of You' and 'Castle on the Hill', debuted at No.1 and No.2 respectively on the official UK Top 40 this week.
