After an incredibly successful year, Ed Sheeran has kicked off 2012 with a bang.

The 'Lego House' singer took the music world by storm over the past 12 months and is set to continue on the same path as last week it was announced that he had been nominated for four gongs at the forthcoming BRIT Awards.

Upon hearing the exciting news about Sheeran's BRITs recognition, legendary musician and worldwide icon Sir Elton John called the flame-haired star to congratulate him on his success and wished him luck for the ceremony.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Sheeran explained how involved Sir Elton is with his work:

"I speak to Elton on a weekly basis. He's very involved and I got a talk from after the BRIT nominations. It's always good to hear from Elton. He's a lovely guy and is very passionate about the music. He wants me to be huge all over the world, and I'm up for that too."
