Ed Sheeran explains charity gig no-show

Ed Sheeran has revealed why he couldn't perform at Noel Gallagher's recent charity gig.

As previously reported, the former Oasis man hosted a night of music on Saturday (March 23) for the Teenage Cancer Trust at London's Royal Albert Hall.

The highlight of the night for many was seeing Gallagher perform with his former Britpop rival, Blur's Damon Albarn.

The guitarist had previously criticised a number of acts for appearing to agree to playing the show before backing out.

Sheeran, however, took to Twitter to clarify why he couldn't play the gig, tweeting:

"I actually told him I would do the gig whenever he wanted, but the week they were planned I was in Australia with gigs already booked and sold out. Had it been any other time I would have made it happen but I found this out after I'd said yes. I think it would be worse saying no instantly without knowing, to be honest, and I said any other time he wants to do a show and I'm not on tour, I will 100 per cent do it."

Sheeran told The Sun that he would be happy to play the event next year.
