Ed Sheeran finding inspiration in former relationship

Ed Sheeran has revealed that he is getting songwriting inspiration from a failed relationship.

The British singer-songwriter is currently working on the follow-up to his hit 2011 debut '+' but little information has surfaced about any of his new tracks.

Speaking to Buzzfeed, however, Sheeran said that he has been tapping into a former relationship in order to mine songwriting influence. When asked where he is finding inspiration at the moment, he said:

"A relationship that I was in and now I’m not. It’s been positive; I’ve got a record. Probably two. I’ll get two out of this one. I tend not to write songs about girls, it’s more like a whole album about one person. I never plan to, but I’ve only been in like three relationships, so that’s how that works."

The 'Lego House' man added he recently wrote a number that he was particularly impressed with, revealing:

"I wrote one the other day that I was really happy with. I wasn’t expecting to put any more into this album but I went into the studio yesterday and was recording a song for the album, and starting playing a riff and said, “Oh, this sounds cool,” and wrote another song."
