Ed Sheeran clears up Taylor Swift's MTV VMAs foul-mouthed slip-up

At the 2013 MTV VMAs, Taylor Swift made headlines after she was caught on camera mouthing "shut the f**k up" to best friend Selena Gomez as One Direction took the stage.

Now, her close pal and touring buddy Ed Sheeran has revealed that she wasn't slamming ex-boyfriend Harry Styles and instead simply intended the remark for Gomez.

The 'Lego House' hitmaker was asked about the incident during a recent interview and rushed to Swift's defense, telling the room that what she said was just misinterpreted: "I know what she said, she rang me straight afterwards and said, 'I think I messed up!', and I was like, 'what?'"

Sheeran continued confidently: "Selena said to her... she said 'I think Miley's going to win the award over me' to Taylor, who... so that's what that was, yeah!"
