Ellie Goulding reveals her rebellious past: "I definitely had a period of drinking and being a bit crazy"

British songstress Ellie Goulding has been discussing what she was like before hitting the big time.

Talking about her teenage years to Sky Arts, the ‘Burn’ singer revealed: “I definitely had a period of drinking and being a bit crazy. I had no idea what my future was going to be then.”

Despite her recognisable blonde locks and pop hits, Ellie used to have a very different look and taste in music:

“I was a bit of a rebel when I was 14… People would call me a goth, I had long black hair which was real, I had piercings and I liked heavy metal music, and the rest of it.”

Talking about the scrutiny she feels she is subject to by being in the public eye Ellie said:

“I never came into this to become a pretty pop star… All of a sudden I was being talked about for what I was wearing, for my nose, my chin, whatever. I didn't ask for that but people assume because you are in that position that is what you want.”

Other subjects discussed during Goulding’s Sky Arts interview included growing up on a council estate, her first job in a hair salon aged 12 and her teenage experiences with drugs.

Ellie Goulding’s full interview with the Parkinson Masterclass will be shown on Sky Arts on April 18 at 8pm (GMT).
