Ellie Goulding on dating: 'I used to put men on a pedestal'

'Starry Eyed' beauty Ellie Goulding has revealed to the May edition of Cosmopolitan magazine that she used to feel as though she needed a man in her life, but now has a much different outlook and appreciates what she has on her own so is more independent.

Despite being recently linked to McFly heartthrob Dougie Poynter, the superstar explained that she is currently unattached and likes being by herself because her life is fulfilling:

"I [used to] put men on a pedestal. I decided to remedy that, and that’s why I’m single now. They’d be everything [but] I’ve realised I don’t need a guy. I’ve got amazing, awesome, stupid friends in the best way possible."

Goulding was also asked what she has learned from relationship break-ups and added that the fear and pain is usually the result of worrying about the future:

"A lot of despair in breaking up with someone is thinking about how you’re going to cope in the future. But not being completely present prevents you from being happy and alive. As soon as you stop relying so heavily on what happened in the past, you end up being able to deal."
