Ellie Goulding scores her first No. 1 UK single

British songstress Ellie Goulding has achieved her first ever No. 1 single in the UK with ‘Burn’.

Goulding’s previous highest chart entry had been her cover of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ which reached No. 2 back in November 2010.

‘Burn’ has debuted at the top of the UK singles chart and knocked Miley Cyrus’ ‘We Can’t Stop’ from the No. 1 slot.

Cyrus’ former No.1 single has this week dropped to No. 3.

Elsewhere in the top five Lady Gaga’s long awaited comeback single ‘Applause’ has gone straight in at No. 5. Gaga decided to rush release ‘Applause’ after an online leak last weekend.

A couple of non-movers make up the rest of the top five as Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’ remains at No. 2 and Lana Del Rey vs Cedric Gervais with ‘Summertime Sadness’ stays at No. 4.

Beside’s Lady Gaga’s ‘Applause’ other new entries to this week’s chart come from Arctic Monkeys with ‘Why Do You Only Call Me When You’re High?’ at No. 8, The Wanted’s ‘We Own The Night’ in at No. 9, which gives the boy band their ninth top ten single, and Ray Foxx featuring Rachel K. Collier with ‘Boom Boom (Heartbeat)’ charting at No. 12.
