Emeli Sandé reveals how trip to Zambia influenced her new album

Emeli Sandé says a visit to her father's homeland of Zambia was a "big spiritual turning point" for the singer as she made her second album.

The singer will release 'Long Live The Angels' on November 11 and she took some samples for the record from a visit to the African country.

The Scot told BBC Radio 4's Front Row that she travelled to her grandmother's rural village and met up with locals.

Sandé said: "There's no electricity, no running water. But they'd light the fire and everyone would sing.

"We took a lot of voice memos, and they're sampled on the album. There's one track featuring my dad and my cousins, called 'Tenderly', and there's a prayer for my auntie.

"I feel like that [visiting Zambia] was such a big spiritual turning point for me."

Sandé meanwhile earlier this week announced a series of intimate UK tour dates for October.
