Emeli Sande to be honoured at Essence magazine's Black Women in Music ceremony

'Read All About It' songstress Emeli Sande has been named as the honoree at Essence magazine's fifth annual Black Women in Music celebration, which is due to take place early next year.

The ceremony will be held on January 22 and Essence president, Michelle Ebanks, told Billboard that Sande was selected for her bold and fearless approach to her career in the music industry:

"Emeli is a global, multi-faceted artist, extraordinary storyteller and a bold and beautiful collaborator whose future is extremely bright. She follows in the tradition of what Essence has always done: supporting artists who are doing incredible things."

The magazine's editor-in-chief, Vanessa K. Bush, added: "Emeli Sandé's soaring confidence as a songwriter and fearless self-expression as a singer is in the tradition of many iconic female trailblazers such as Nina Simone."

Sande's latest album, 'Our Version Of Events', was recently named the UK's best-selling album of 2013 despite being released initially back in February 2012. The star is currently working on her follow-up record and told Billboard that it's very much in the early stages at the moment: "It's just a baby at the moment. I'm not sure what it is yet. But it will be very spiritual. I want it to hit people's souls, to speak to them no matter where they are in the world."
