5ive have pulled out of Brexit gig over political concerns

5ive have cancelled an appearance at an upcoming Brexit event.

The band were booked to perform at a gig in Birmingham on June 19 hosted by the Leave.EU campaign.

Alesha Dixon, East 17 and Sister Sledge are still on the bill, with UKIP's Nigel Farage expected to speak.

However, 5ive have now pulled out of the event after learning that it was more of a "rally" than a concert.

The band's management told the BBC: "When Rich and Scott agreed to play the event they understood that it was a pop concert funded by one of the Brexit organisations and not a political rally.

"They would like to make it clear that as a band 5ive have no political allegiances or opinions for either side.

"As it has come to light that this is more a political rally with entertainment included they have both decided to cancel their involvement.

"They would like to make it clear that as a band 5ive have no political allegiances or opinions for either side.

"Their allegiance is first and foremost to their fans."
