Foo Fighters to play crowd-funded gig

Foo Fighters have confirmed plans to perform a gig in Virginia following a successful fan campaign.

The band haven't played in Richmond since 1998 and fan Andrew Goldin earlier this year launched a campaign to encourage the group to gig there.

A crowd-funding project was launched and 1,400 'tickets' were sold at $50 a go, despite the event not being agreed upon.

However, the US rock act confirmed on Tuesday (September 3) that they will play in Richmond, Virginia at the National Theatre on September 17.

Those who originally pledged money to the gig will receive tickets, with the band tweeting:

"How’s Sept. 17th @TheNationalRVA sound? Let’s do it. If you pledged, check your email for details!"

Foo Fighters meanwhile are due to release their new album 'Sonic Highways' on November 10.
