Beth Ditto describes new Gossip album as 'grown-up and sad'

Beth Ditto has described Gossip’s forthcoming fifth studio album, 'A Joyful Noise,' as ‘grown-up and sad.’

The 31-year-old was speaking to Radio 1’s Annie Mac about the follow-up to 2009’s Music For Men ahead of the first play for its lead single, 'Perfect World':

She said: “It sounds grown-up and sad. I love sad songs. They say so much. I love country music but even the happy songs sound really sad.”

Ditto, who released a self-titled solo E.P. last year, also revealed she enjoyed the process of recording the album:

"We made it between London and Portland. The weather was the same. We didn't know where we were"

"It's been such a long time since we made a record in the place where we lived. It was great to just roll out of bed."

Produced by Xenomania’s Brian Higgins, best-known for his work with Girls Aloud, the album is released on May 14, the day before their only scheduled UK show at London's XOYO.
