Greyce: “It knocked me down, it set me back a bit, but it also showed me how much harder I need to work for my dream to become reality.”

After the successful release of Dare to Dream (official video), British singer-songwriter Greyce was disheartened to find that the video had been removed due to a technical glitch by no fault of her own.

During a brief intereview Greyce revealed how important her dream is and announced the re-release for her debut video now scheduled to release on Thursday 10th July.

See below for Greyce and Nathanael Watson’s (British pianist) discussion on the single.

1. What was the inspiration behind Dare To Dream?

Nathanael: Well, my first inspiration came from hearing Lost & Found by Lianne La Havas. Greyce had introduced her music to me a while back but I didn’t really take interest at first. It was only when Greyce had got me to play it for her at one of her performances that I discovered how amazing the song Lost & Found truely was. As a producer, I usually create music with complex harmonies, rhythms, and varying techniques but after listening to Lost & found, it inspired me to create a song that was harmonically simple yet still powerful in lyrics.

Greyce: On my side of the story my key inspiration came from Nathanael’s piano playing of the song idea. He had sent me a short snippet for Dare to Dream, the length of just one verse and chorus, and after hearing the resonating sound I could already picture where to place my melody and the type of feeling behind it.

2. Why the name dare to dream?

G: Originally, the song wasn’t called ‘Dare To Dream’. There were two previous titles for the song but they just didn’t seem to fit. For me, this was the first time I had ever written a complete song without having a title for it.

The first title for the song was actually “Don’t give up”. It seemed like a straightforward title as those words came up a lot in the chorus, but we both were silently unhappy with it.

It personally bugged me day in day out and I remember listening to the song over and over again thinking of different titles and then dismissing them. Randomly, one day as I was listening to the chorus and the words “dare to dream” jumped out at me. At that time those words weren’t even in the song but I just knew I had to make “Dare To Dream” the title and also find a way to now include those lyrics in the song. Dare To Dream was the powerful sentence that became our title.

3. Tell us a little about the video for Dare To Dream?

N: Before shooting the video with the film director me and Greyce worked on developing the idea for the video together. We had so many different storylines and ideas of how we wanted to express the song through footage. It took a lot of focus and hard work, even down to the last few days before the video shoot me and greyce were still tweaking parts of the script to get it perfect in our eyes. The hard work definitely paid off!

The filming stage for Dare to Dream was stressful having to play various roles both onset and behind the scenes, but it amazing being there and I would change a thing.

4. What’s your favorite lyric from the track and why?

N: “But I say this to you, whatever you do, don’t give up on you”

I think this is the heart of the song and it gives the song’s overall message: you will always have choices in life but no matter what, don’t ever choose the choice to give up.

G: “Why do you walk alone and leave your hopes far behind?”

This is a reflective question that I believe can be heard and received in so many different ways.

5. Should we be expecting any more collaboration from the two of you?

G: Yes you certainly should. There are a few surprise releases coming out later this year!
