MATT TERRY IS CROWNED THE X FACTOR 2016 WINNER


Newly penned Ed Sheeran track ‘When Christmas Comes Around’ released immediately after the show

Matt Terry was crowned winner of The X Factor 2016 tonight in front of 10,000 excited fans at Wembley Arena and a TV audience of millions at home. 

The 13th series of the most talked-about show on UK television came to a close with a phenomenal performance from Matt Terry’s debuting winner’s single ‘When Christmas Comes Around’. This is an original Christmas song written by Ed Sheeran for this year’s winner of The X Factor. ‘When Christmas Comes Around’ was made available to download and stream immediately after the performance. All proceeds from the track are in aid of children’s hospice charities, Together For Short Lives and Shooting Star Chase. Ed Sheeran is one of the UK’s most renowned singer-songwriters. He has sold in excess of 11 million albums and won four BRIT awards and two Grammy awards.  

Mentored by Nicole ScherzingerMatt Terry has impressed viewers throughout the series and last night his performance of Jess Glynne’s 'Take Me Home' and a duet with Nicole earned him a spot in tonight’s Final, where he performed a dazzling cover of Sam Smith’s 'Writing’s On The Wall' and beat Saara Aalto to become the winner.

Matt Terry said: “I cannot believe I have won. It’s everything I have ever wanted. A massive thank you to everyone that helped to get me here, this is for them. And thank you to Nicole for believing in me from the very beginning.”

Nicole Scherzinger said: “Matt has made it all worthwhile, me coming back to The X Factor. I adore him and he’s like a little brother, I feel like part of the family and I couldn’t be more proud”. 

‘When Christmas Comes Around’ is sure to become a modern festive classic. ‘When Christmas Comes Around’ is the ninth charity release from The X Factor and the fifth winner’s single where profits have been donated to charity. Simco Limited will donate 100% of its profits from the sale of each download and in respect of all streaming in the UK and the Republic of Ireland to be shared equally by Together for Short Lives, registered charity no. 1144022 and Shooting Star Chase, registered charity no. 1042495. This donation will be at least 20p for each download sold in the UK.
