Harry Styles has confused - and excited - One Direction fans by uploading mysterious photos to Instagram.

The singer took to the picture sharing platform at the weekend to post three blank images.

There were no captions included with the uploads, leading fans to scratch their heads.

Some rumourmongers speculated that the images could have been an ode to ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift and her song 'Blank Space'.

Other fans have questioned if it is the start of Styles' solo career, with the singer recently signing a deal with Columbia.

Regardless of the meaning, the pictures caused a big stir online and have received over 1.5 million likes between them.
