Hurts: 'We were tipped for Eurovision, but Engelbert Humperdinck won the place'

Electro-duo Hurts have confessed that they were keen to be given the 2012 slot at Eurovision, but lost out to crooner Engelbert Humperdinck.

During a backstage interview with the NME at this year's Glastonbury Festival, the duo's Theo Hutchcraft explained that they had previously shown interest in potentially representing the UK, but another act was chosen instead:

"We’d said in interviews like three years ago that we were interested."

"We thought it would be quite interesting. We had some ideas for it but then they went with Engelbert Humperdinck."

Back in 2012, Humperdinck told press that his Eurovision experience was wonderful despite not placing well with ‘Love Will Set You Free': "I’ve had many highs in my career and Eurovision has been a wonderful experience. I did the best for my country, the rest was out of my hands."

“I hope everyone listening to the song... we shared the song with every generation. I sang it from my heart."
