Love Revisited Release New Single and Announce Sold Out Show

To mark the 10th anniversary of Arthur Lee’s passing, LOVE revisited sees his longest serving band perform classic songs from LOVE’s first three albums LOVE, DE CAPO and FOREVER CHANGES.

From 1993 until Arthur’s death in 2006, the band Baby Lemonade performed with him, being an essential part of the renaissance of LOVE’s music. This iteration of LOVE saw many sold out tours, as well as back to back Glastonbury performances and an appearance on Later with Jools Holland.

Joining Baby Lemonade is LOVE’s original lead guitar player and founding member Johnny Echols, who was part of the classic line up that recorded the seminal FOREVER CHANGES.

Johnny Echols and Arthur Lee were childhood friends whose families both moved from Memphis to Los Angeles. Teenage Johnny & Arthur teamed up to form the groups Arthur Lee & The LAG’s and the American Four before they formed LOVE in 1965. The classic LOVE line up featuring Johnny disbanded in 1968. Johnny reunited with Arthur Lee in 2005 to perform with LOVE once more.

Baby Lemonade formed in 1992 by Rusty Squeezebox, Mike Randle, David “Daddy-O” Green, later adding Dave Chapple to the mix. In 1993 the band landed the gig of a lifetime opening up for LOVE. That show was the last for that incarnation of LOVE as Arthur replaced them with the 4 Baby Lemonade members. Baby Lemonade released records on Sympathy for the Record Industry, Munster and Big Deal between 1993 and 2001.

Upon their return from a LOVE tour of Europe, in 1996, Baby Lemonade was shocked to find that Arthur had been sentenced to 12 years in prison on a weapons charge.

After nearly 6 years in prison, Arthur’s case was overturned and shortly after, at his request, Baby Lemonade began rehearsing for what would be non-stop LOVE touring throughout North America, UK, Europe and Australia between 2002 and 2005 where they enjoyed unprecedented success with sold out tours, back to back Glastonbury performances, Roskilde, Royal Festival Hall and an appearance on the Later with Jools Holland TV Show.

In 2005 the LOVE line up once again featured Arthur’s childhood friend and founding member Johnny Echols on lead guitar who returned after a 37 year absence.

In July of 2005, Arthur was diagnosed with Leukaemia and after a brave battle he passed away one year later. Arthur’s last show was with Baby Lemonade and Johnny Echols on June 23rd at San Francisco’s Cafe Du Nord. The world had lost a true music legend.

In 2016 LOVE revisited will celebrate the music of LOVE and mark Arthur Lee’s passing by reuniting for a 10 year anniversary UK tour.

This is a bittersweet time for me... I Miss my brother every single day. At the same time, I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to perform Love's music live, with musicians that Arthur played with for so long... and for whom he had such deep respect. As well as having the opportunity to perform our music in the UK... Love's home away from home. Arthur loved the UK, in fact, had he lived, I'm certain he would have relocated to London.

This is not only the tenth anniversary of Arthur's passing... it's also the fiftieth anniversary of the group Love. While I'm gratified to see so many of our dear friends from back in the day... I'm amazed at the legions of younger fans who come out to support us. Arthur would be so proud that they know and love our music.

Come join us, as we celebrate the music of Arthur Lee and a group called Love... you'll have the time of your life!

Johnny Echols... co-founder and lead guitarist.

Very few days go by that I don't think about our time in this band with Arthur. There's always a reference, a feeling or a sound that brings it all back. After knowing someone for that long a time it's hard not to. Of course I've been thinking about it even more lately, since it's been 10 years since Arthur's passing, yet I still keep coming back to the music itself, which is what got me so intrigued in the first place. It is still so vibrant and interesting, and there's been nothing quite like it since. I am excited and honored to be able to play this music and celebrate Arthur's legacy.

Of all of the places we visited as a band, of course the UK has been a special place for us. It's going to be great seeing all of the faces from the tours, and getting to play for the people who always appreciated the music most.

The music of LOVE is some of the most daring and inventive music ever created by a band. And there has never been another band whose dark side truly breathes through such beautiful music, it was natural for them and real.

Coming up on 10 years since Arthur’s passing brings up wonderful memories of how we powered through so many shows, on several continents, in front of so many different cultures.  There were places where people barely spoke English, yet knew every last word to every song.  I am also reminded of the rehearsals we did with Arthur where he had the dedication and determination of someone who was doing it for the first time.  When we played Spaceland in Silverlake back in April, 2002, to our hometown pals, we found ourselves setting sail on a wonder trip that would last 4 years (2002-2005) and help bring so many friends and fans back together.  And after each show, Arthur would request that each person “Do me a favor and love one another”.

I am particularly excited to return to the UK to perform these songs again.  It’s been 10 years and so many people have reached out over the years and asked when we were coming back so we are all very focused on making this a fantastic tour with a really amazing set list.

To me, LOVE & Arthur Lee’s music transcends all eras and trends of rock music and, to be honest, any particular genre.  Whether we’re talking about the brilliant marriage of strings, horns and psychedelic fuzz folk of Forever Changes or the Kerouac-like musical journey of the clever Da Capo or even the beautifully jangle and echo-ness of the self-titled LOVE record, the genius and wonder of Arthur and the boys seems never ending and I always seem to discover something new and different about the songs upon each listen.

I feel very blessed and am proud to have been a part of LOVE and Arthur Lee’s music for over 22 years now.  I have made so many friends and have witnessed how music can absolutely touch a person’s life - even change a person’s life.  I saw how happy the resurgent years made Arthur and how much he loved and respected his fans and only wanted the best for them. Arthur actually chose to make less money in order to bring Forever Changes to different cities.  He wanted people to be able to experience it but more importantly, afford it.  He taught me a lot but probably the best advice Arthur Lee ever gave me was to “Play it like the record or play it better than the record”.
