Iggy Azalea dreaded winning top GRAMMYs prize: 'I did not want to win that award'

Aussie rapper Iggy Azalea has revealed that she was honoured to have been nominated for the Best Rap Album prize at this year's GRAMMYs, but didn't want to win the award because she dreaded the backlash.

Eminem ended up winning the title, and Azalea told radio station Power 106 that if she had been successful in the category there's no doubt that she would have been met with a wave of negativity from critics and the public alike:

"I did not want to win that award. My speech would have been like, 'F**k this! I don't want it! Take it!'... I found it to be kind of ironic. It was because I'm white, therefore I'm appropriating culture. But then Eminem won it - who's white and won it many times - and they didn't seem to say anything about that."

Azalea, meanwhile, recently quit Twitter and confessed that she was sick of dealing with hatred on a daily basis so had to remove herself from the social media site: "I feel the hatred and pettiness I see online at all times is at making me become an angry person and I cannot be that. To become nasty because of the way I feel I'm treated would be a disservice to my fans and I promise i will try to keep smiling. But I also want to let my fans know I am taking some time away from social media. I need to be happy and it is too negative and draining."
