Island Def Jam Music Group Appoints Eric Wong Executive Vice President, Marketing

Island Def Jam Music Group (IDJMG) has further strengthened its executive management team with the return of Eric Wong to the company, and his appointment as Executive Vice President, Marketing, it was announced today by Steve Bartels, President & COO, Island Def Jam Music Group. 

Based in New York, Mr. Wong will play an integral role in the creation, development, and execution of marketing strategies for IDJ artists.  In carrying out his duties, he will oversee the activities of IDJ's Marketing, Digital, Creative, and Artist Development Departments. He will report directly to Mr. Bartels.

Eric Wong, founder of his own Wong Management firm, returns to IDJ after serving in key senior management posts at Bad Boy Entertainment and Atlantic Records. As Chief Marketing Officer of Bad Boy and Senior Vice-President, Marketing, Atlantic Records starting in 2006 he worked with a diverse roster of artists that included of Sean "Diddy" Combs, Jay Z, Janelle Monae,Toni Braxton, Yung Joc, Estelle, Cassie and Danity Kane, among others. Wong Management was then established in 2009 with Wong being a part of Mariah Carey's management team along with a management roster that includes Ryan Star (Atlantic) andWynter Gordon (Big Beat).

Prior to those positions, Mr. Wong served as Vice President, Marketing, Island Def Jam Music Group. During his early years at IDJ, Mr. Wong developed marketing campaigns for, and built strong relationships with a roster of multi-platinum artists that included Mariah Carey, Bon Jovi, The Killers, Fall Out Boy, and others.

Mr. Wong, a Brooklyn native, has served as an inspiration to minority youth working their way into the music industry. At age 16, he applied for an internship listed in Billboard magazine, and was chosen for a job at WEA Distribution through Youth Entertainment Summer (Y.E.S.), a program designed for minority high school students. The summer led to an internship at Atlantic then to a position as a college rep at EMI Records. Simultaneously, Mr. Wong graduated from New York University. The rest is history...
