The Dream reacts to fan demands with long awaited release of '1977' album

To arrive in stores Dec 18th on Radio Killa/Def Jam Recording

New and old die-hard fans of three-time Grammy Award®-winning Radio Killa/Def Jam recording artist The-Dream, who also serves as Executive Vice President of A&R, Def Jam Recordings, will be thrilled at today’s announcement of the long-awaited official commercial release of 1977, his deeply introspective and highly controversial fourth album. 1977 will finally arrive in stores on December 18th.

The critically acclaimed 1977 (a reference to the year he was born) was originally released for free on the Internet in August 2011, under The-Dream’s given name, Terius Nash.  In a rare, extended one thousand-word review, Pitchfork called 1977, “a conscious change in style and sound…a deeply personal and presumably therapeutic album…” Read the complete Pitchfork review at: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/43886-the-dream.

n its equally rhapsodic 500-word review of 1977, the New York Times reminded readers, “No songwriter and producer of the last few years has done more to define the sound of female R&B than Terius Nash (aka The-Dream).  Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé – he’s reinvented them all.”  Go to:http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/06/arts/music/albums-from-terius-nash-george-strait-cymbals-eat-guitars.html?_r=1&ref=music

1977 turned out to be the follow-up to Love King (released June 2010) which hit the Soundscan Top 5 and spun off a pair of Top 40 R&B singles, the title-track “Love King” and “Make-Up Bag” featuring T.I.  Love King followed up The-Dream’s RIAA gold Love vs. Money (#1 R&B, #2 pop, released March 2009), and his RIAA gold debut album, Love Hate (December 2007).

The-Dream’s debut Love Hate produced back-to-back hits that dominated 2008, including “Shawty Is A 10” featuring Fabolous (Top 10 R&B); “Falsetto” (#3 R&B); and “I Luv Your Girl” (#1 Rhythmic, #3 R&B).  The-Dream made headlines in 2007-2008, when he proved himself a masterful hit songwriter for Rihanna(“Umbrella”), Mariah Carey (“Touch My Body”), and J. Holiday (“The Bed,” “Suffocate”).  The-Dream wrote several songs (among them “Just Fine”) on Mary J. Blige’s Growing Pains (2007) which won the Grammy® for Best Contemporary R&B Album.  The-Dream won Best New Artist honors at the 2008 BET Awards – in addition to his Grammy Award® nomination for Song Of The Year for “Umbrella” (as songwriter), and American Music Award nomination for Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

The-Dream went on to help craft Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake,” Justin Bieber’s triple-platinum worldwide smash, “Baby,” “No Church In the Wild” from Kanye West and Jay-Z’s opus Watch The Throne, and many more.  The-Dream was a writer on “All Of The Lights” from Def Jam label-mate Kanye West’s lauded 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.  The song won Grammys for “Best Rap Song” and “Best Rap Sung Collaboration.” In 2010, he shared in two Grammy Awards® as a songwriter on Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It),” which won for Song of the Year and Best R&B Song.
