(Oct. 17, 2013 – Los Angeles, CA)  August Alsina’s anointing should come as no surprise, as last week he claimed the #1 spot on both the Urban Airplay chart and the Billboard Mainstream R&B/ Hip-Hop chart—courtesy of his debut single on Def Jam Recordings, “I Luv This Sh*t” featuring Trinidad James. The song hasn't slowed down, currently holding strong at #2.

“I Luv This Sh*t,” follow-up single “Downtown” featuring Kidd Kidd, “Ghetto” featuring Rich Homie Quan, and “Let Me Hit That” featuring fellow NOLA’er Curren$y highlight August’s debut EP on Def Jam, DOWNTOWN: LIFE UNDER THE GUN.  The eight-song EP also includes “Hell on Earth,” “Survival of the Fittest,” “Don’t Forget About Me,” and “Nobody Knows.”

Additionally, an explosive new remix of “I Luv This Sh*t” is now available, featuring Chris Brown and Trey Songz and produced by Knucklehead. Cop it here: [http://smarturl.it/iluvdisremix]

These latest laurels punctuate what has been a whirlwind 2013 for the 21-year old MC. After a March performance at the SXSW Music Conference, August went on to open the Lights Out Tour starring The Dream and Kelly Rowland. The New Orleans native has also earned his place on MTV Jams’ 2013 Fab 5 list, was among VEVO’s Emerging Artists and was recently named a MTV “Buzzworthy Artist!” The “I Luv This Sh*t” video also hit BET’s106 & Park as a New Joint, and was then added to BET, MTV2 and MTV Jams permanently.

This groundswell is a far cry from August Alsina’s early days. His music reflects a life on the mean streets of one of America’s most dangerous and desperate cities. At the mere age of 14, August lost his father to drugs and alcohol which, was tragically followed by his brother being gunned down—a murder that remains unsolved.  August attempted to escape the grim reality of his surroundings by posting homemade performance videos, covering the likes of Musiq Soulchild and Lyfe Jennings. The videos soon went viral and generated millions of views each month.

Bouncing back and forth between New Orleans and Houston, August eventually settled in Atlanta, where he earnestly attacked music under the guidance of the management and production company NNTME MuCo (Noontime). He first channeled his life experiences into last year’s searing mixtape,The Product Hosted By DJ Scream, which spawned the Sound Mob-produced single “Sucka” featuring fellow Crescent City native, R&B crooner Lloyd.  August then teamed up with DJ Drama and his Gangsta Grillz brand for a second mixtape, The Product II Hosted By DJ Drama. It was this tape, released in May of 2013, that certified “I Luv This Sh*t” as a bonafide national hit. With a perspective and resolve forged by all of life’s lows, the prospects and expectations for August Alsina couldn’t be higher.
