Jake Bugg thinks BRITs made Global Success gong for One Direction

Jake Bugg believes that the BRIT Awards' Global Success prize was created for One Direction.

The awards ceremony introduced the category in 2013 to honour an act who enjoyed massive worldwide popularity that year.

One Direction bagged it that year and followed it up with another win at this year's ceremony.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, Bugg - who has a long-standing history of slating One Direction and the pop industry - said that he reckons the Global Success award was made specifically for the 'Kiss You' lads.

He said: "To make up an award just so One Direction win it and turn up is a bit wrong but that’s it, it’s show business."

Bugg was nominated for this year's Male Solo Artist prize, but he questioned how winner David Bowie could be placed in the category alongside more inexperienced acts.

He said: "I don't mind losing out to David Bowie, but how can you have a category with him in it and four people that have made one or two albums."
