James Arthur on media portrayal: "I wish I was still poor and unknown - this is hell"

James Arthur has spoken frankly about his apparent vilification in the media - something that he calls "hell".

The X Factor 2012 winner hit the headlines today after reportedly sending occasional model Teddy Edwardes abusive messages after she apparently turned him down.

Arthur said that the conversation was fabricated and that he has never heard of Edwardes.

In a new series of messages posted on Twitter today, Arthur admitted that he wished he wasn't famous as it would mean he would be out of the media spotlight.

The singer said: "Pop's biggest misogynist and homophobe" "death threats" you have no idea. These writers are the bullies not me. This girl is not a victim. If I was anyone else id have killed myself by now with the abuse I've suffered because of the British media vilifying me."

He added: "Disgraceful propaganda. No proof. No substantial sources. People jumping on bandwagons. I wish I was still poor and unknown. This is hell."

Edwardes meanwhile took to Twitter to say to Arthur: "If you had just apologised instead of attacking me, this could have all been avoided."
