James Arthur says male X Factor winners "look and sound like puppets"

James Arthur has criticised some of the singers who have found fame on the UK X Factor.

The Brit won the series in 2012 after beating off competition from Jahmene Douglas.

However, the outspoken singer told Poland's Interia.tv that the X Factor has been falling short when it comes to producing talented stars.

"For me, watching The X Factor over the years, they just haven't got it right. The male winners that they've had, haven't been that believable. They look like puppets, they sound like puppets."

He added: "All they can do is try to make them look like good karaoke singers. You find the one or two amazing vocalists, like Leona Lewis, like Jennifer Hudson or Kelly Clarkson. It's really hard to find those types of singers. I honestly think you just hit the jackpot now and again. I think it's a lottery."

Speaking meanwhile about his first album, which was released in 2013, Arthur said: "I'm really just looking forward to my next record because although I thank my first album for what it's done for me, I feel a little bit detached from it now because it felt like there were so many influences on it. I'd rather just be left alone to make my art and make my music."
