James Arthur: 'It's hard to avoid negativity'

'X Factor' winner James Arthur has revealed that one of the downsides to being in the public eye as a recording artist is the negativity aimed at you on a regular basis.

During a new exclusive interview with Digital Spy, the 'You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You' hitmaker explained that once you've read one bad remark about yourself, you've really read them all so you zone out and learn to take it in your stride:

"It's hard to avoid it sometimes. It's mainly the commenters... some of them are the dregs of society! I've read articles about me online that I've thought put me in quite a positive light, and then the first comment is 'what a prick James Arthur is'. Then you see five more like that. I'm just a guy with an opinion, whether I'm in the public eye or not."

He also opened up about a rap mixtape he's been working on in his spare time, adding that it's an exciting project that's completely independent:

"I've been working on it at home. It's all produced by myself and my friend from Middlesbrough. I'm going to be giving it away at some point early next year, I hope - if I can find the time."
