James Arthur: 'I don't envy One Direction trying to sing live... if they do sing live'

Former 'X Factor' winner James Arthur performed at the Radio 1 Teen Awards over the weekend, but revealed that an earpiece malfunction made it difficult to give his best efforts.

Speaking to EntertainmentWise about not being able to hear the second song he sang, Arthur explained it did ruin his set and left him a little disappointed:

"I couldn't hear anything of the second song so I could have been like, singing in the wrong key altogether but I will hear it back later on I guess so I could be embarrassed in front of the whole nation. I could not hear a single thing so it's kind of disappointing, I'm normally pitch perfect and I couldn't hear s**t.”

He went on to blame the faulty piece of equipment for sounding out of tune, adding: “It was a malfunction in my ear piece to be honest. It's a shame and then obviously paired with the screaming it was difficult to hear.”

Arthur then joked that boyband One Direction must experience similar problems if they actually sing live and don't just lip-synch over backing tracks: "I don't envy One Direction trying to sing live... if they do sing live."
