James Arthur on 'X Factor' audition: 'I was battling demons'

Singer-songwriter James Arthur has opened up about the audition that saw him go on to win 'The X Factor' in the UK and confessed that he picked the song he performed because it reflected his life at that time.

He chose to audition with a stripped back rendition of Tulisa Contostavlos's 'Young' and told Company magazine that lyrically, the track reflected things he was going through so felt it was the most appropriate:

"I like the message in the song. That day was momentous for me because I had a turbulent childhood and a lot of demons I was trying to relinquish. I changed the song into something that fitted me and rapped my own lyrics."

Earlier this afternoon (November 12), Arthur told his followers that he didn't intend any direct offence by his recent criticism of boybands and wrote: "So every boyband in the world is gunna take offence to a comment I made in anger? Tom from the wanted I have nothing against you bro #LOVE."
