Janet Devlin answers fans' questions

Former X Factor star Janet Devlin is releasing her first full album 'Running With Scissors' on Monday (June 9) and Pressparty recently caught up with her to find out more. Check out part one of the interview here and part two below.

What do you think is the best song on the album?

I think my favourite personally is the last song, 'Whisky Lullabies'. [It's about] if your mother was to hold you when you were a child, that warmth you get…the only thing comparable to that when you're an adult is the taste of whisky going through your chest. That's the closest that you could feel to that mother warm hug thing. It's quite a personal vibe, and a lot of people cry when I perform it live. But that's good because it's supposed to be like that, a hard-hitter. It's good that people connect to it.

You recently played an online gig where fans paid as little or as much as they wanted to 'attend'. Do you think that is the future?

For me, because a lot of my fans aren't actually in the UK -  they're all across the globe - it means they can watch without having to travel. It's really cool and it's definitely worth it.

How did it work out financially? Did a lot of people pay small amounts?

Surprisingly that didn't happen. My only worry was my guitar player, who lives in Sheffield, so we had to pay for him to come down, but we had covered his costs before we started the show.

I read you're distantly related to Nirvana mainman Kurt Cobain in some way?

Apparently, yeah. Courtney Love has the documents from sorting out inheritance. I'll have to ask my Dad to check, but he seems to think it's legit.

There's worse people to be related to...

For me it's weird, because in the X Factor I always had a Nirvana poster on my bedroom wall. And I did have a massive crush on Kurt Cobain, so that makes it a bit weird…

Here's some questions from fans - what was your favourite song to write for the album? (from @DevlinatorAdam)

I think it might be 'Whisky Lullabies', because it's so honest and so open.

If you could write a song with anyone for your next album, who would it be and why? (from @jd_supporter)

There's so many, I love collaborations. I think I would love to work with City and Colour. I think he's amazing. Everyone says don't meet your heroes, but I met him and he was so lovely and so sweet and he gave me half an hour of his time and his advice. I'd love to write a song with him.

When will you tour again? (from @_HideAndSeek1)

I've got some dates pencilled in, but I can't give out any details about it yet. I really want to tell my fans, but I can't.

Would you rather go bald forever or have a beard you can't shave off? (from @hxlcyons)

I've been wanting to cut my hair forever, because naturally my hair goes down to my waist, so I'd definitely go bald.

But if you had a beard then you could maybe win Eurovision…

Oh my God, I'd love a beard, that'd be so much fun. But I'd definitely go bald.
