Little Mix prefer to be "sassy" rather than "sexy"

Little Mix have spoken out against the overly sexual images some female pop stars promote.

In an interview with the BBC, the British girl band – made up by Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall – stated that they are not interested in performing suggestive choreography, and that they understand how being forcefully sexy and can make music fans feel.

Jade explained: “There's no need to do that kind of dancing. Obviously, sometimes we do do a bit of sexy dancing but it's more empowering.”

Perrie added: “Yeah, it's sassy. Not gyrating on the floor thrusting our vaginas.”

Speaking about the pressure in the music industry for female artists to be sexy, Jesy said:

“I think it's different for girl bands. Fans can find it intimidating if you're being sexy. I think that's why, a lot of the time, girl bands haven't really worked - because it's too sexy and girls are like, 'mmm… no, I'm a bit worried you're going to steal my boyfriend off me'. I think that's why we have done quite well.”

Edwards agreed saying: “We're not about that anyway. We're in our own lane, we know what we stand for. We want to inspire people. If we're a bit sexy, we're a bit sexy, if we're not, we don't really care. We don't feel like we have to have really skimpy outfits. We do whatever the heck we want.”

Little Mix released their new single ‘Black Magic’ earlier this week on the first ever global release day. Within hours of its release ‘Black Magic’ went to No. 1 on the UK iTunes chart.
