Little Mix's 'Glory Days' is second fastest-selling album of 2016

Congratulations to Little Mix, who have scored their first Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart today.

The group’s fourth collection Glory Days shifted just over 96,000 combined sales to bag the top spot – the highest first week sales for a UK girl group Number 1 since Spice Girls’ Spiceworld opened with 192,000 in 1997. It’s also the fastest-selling Number 1 album by any girl group in 15 years, since Destiny’s Child’s Survivor (2001).

Glory Days is now the second fastest-selling album of 2016, after David Bowie’s Blackstar in January (146,000), as well as beating the first-week sales of big records from the likes of Drake (78k) and Beyonce (73k) this year.

Little Mix’s latest release is the 23rd Number 1 album to emerge from The X Factor, while its lead single Shout Out To My Ex became Little Mix’s fourth Number 1 single last month, making them the X Factor winners with the most chart-toppers to their name.

Glory Days follows Little Mix’s three Top 5 collections DNA (2012), Salute (2013) and Get Weird (2015).

Meanwhile, Metallica finish in second place this week with their tenth studio album Hardwired… to Self-Destruct, and Bruno Mars’ third record 24K Magic finishes at Number 3.

Outside the Top 10, UB40’s first Unplugged album featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue debuts at 17, Adele’s 25 rebounds ten spots to 23, and a new Donna Summer Ultimate Collection enters at 30.

Finally, Andrea Bocelli’s Romanza debuts at 32, and YouTube singer-songwriter Dodie makes her Top 40 debut at 23 with Intertwined at Number 35.
